Jaweerya Mohammad is a passionate educator, published poet, editor, and mother based in New Jersey. Her writing is shaped by her Muslim and Pakistani American identity, and centers on themes of nostalgia, womanhood, nature, spirituality, grief, and healing. She firmly believes in the power of words and that storytelling can foster a more empathetic and just world. Her work has been published in several places, such as Berkeley Poetry Review, Querencia Press, and the Third Space Anthology by Renard Press.
She graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s in English and Master’s in Education. She holds several years of experience in teaching at a public Middle School in NJ, where she taught English. During her time there, she also served as Co-Advisor of the Model UN Club.
In the past, Jaweerya’s volunteered in her community as a Public Speaking Instructor and served as a Judge for a Prepared Essay Competition. She has also worked with organizations in helping create and lead student workshops combating and identifying anti-Muslim bias in school curricula. Currently, she is an Editor at Muslim Youth Musings.
When she is not writing, she can be found attending open-mics, gardening, and fostering the love of reading in her daughter while sipping a strong cup of chai.
